I sold some bullion bars to climb Mount Blanc
I was still a secondary school student at the time. My P.E. teacher announced one day that he was going to climb Mount Blanc. He was actually going to create a group of students willing to go on this trip with him. I immediately knew I had to do everything to take part. The problem was, the trip was quite expensive. The preparations, the equipment and all other expenses, when put together, did not make a sum my parents would be willing to spend. But there was also another solution. I had inherited a couple of gold bullion bars from my grandfather the year before. However, I was not supposed to sell them before my eighteenth birthday. They were kept in a bank vault that was managed by my father. I had a part-time job, buy my earnings were only enough to pay for my train tickets and a cinema ticket from time to time. What did I do? Of course I begged my parents to let me sell some of the bullion bars and use the money to make my dream come true. After a week or two, I finally persuaded them. They sold six out of twelve bullion bars to an investor from London. I spent the money on a new pair of trekking shoes, some professional clothes and equipment. We climbed Mount Blanc on May 20. It was a difficult task, and quite dangerous, too. But I was the happiest person in the world!
